Newsletter Issue 6 — Autumn 2009
Dear Friend of Agapé Heart,
On behalf of the Trustees, we thank all friends of Agape Heart for their continued loyalty and prayers. Agape Heart remains passionate and committed to demonstrating the Truth of God's love to the poor as the Lord leads us. We are compelled by His love, His Commission and His grace and it is an awesome and incomparable privilege to serve Him, showing His Way, His love, and His compassion to the needy.
We would also like to express our deep gratitude to all who supported our summer fund-raising event at Spring Meadow Farm. We thank Robert and Marie Laken, who hosted the event at their farm, for their extensive input, kindness and generosity.
We were so blessed to have the lovely Crown Jewels attest to God's goodness in song and dance. They were truly inspiring; we thank them and pray for God's continued blessing on their wonderful ministry.
We also thank The Chairs band for playing for us again, even despite having another engagement on the day.
We thank Nicky Erskine for her gracious help in many areas, including design and production of the programme and the delicious home-made jam.
We thank Mrs Judith Ezenekwe (pictured) who successfully completed the women's 5-Kilometre Challenge in September, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and Agapé Heart. Judith raised over £100 for Agape Heart. Well done Judith!
As you know, the aim of the summer event was to raise the necessary funds to dig a vitally needed community water well in the village of Amuma.
We raised around £700 for the project. We have not at present received all promised funds. We are fully committed to the Water Project, and we would appeal to those who have not donated to prayerfully consider making a donation to enable us to give safe, clean water to those who desperately need it. So many children and adults die needlessly from water-borne diseases such as typhoid, dysentery and diarrhoea. As I write, Nnenna, one of the orphaned girls being sponsored through Agape Heart, has only just recovered from life-threatening typhoid fever. You may recall that Pastor David also suffered from typhoid fever last year. The lack of clean water supply remains a major health problem in the villages in this area.
Please help us to get this project off the ground. We know that it is the very heart of God that we care for the poor and needy. There are over 500 references in the Bible showing God's heart for the poor. God our Father commands us to care for those in need. Consider some of what God says about those who care for the needy, and what it reveals of His heart for the poor:
We are planning once again to send clothing to the poor in Ohafia and Umuahia. If you have any suitable clothing to give for children or adults in this regard, please let us know as soon as possible.
We give thanks and praise to God for, among other blessings, the following:
- Your continued loyalty, which enabled us to pay for hospital treatment for Pastor David (pictured), who was badly injured in a motorcycle accident in September. He is extremely thankful to God for the life-saving help received again from Agapé Heart.
- Continued care and provision for orphaned Nnenna and Ugochi, whose grandmother died last month.
- Successful medical treatment for Nnenna (pictured above with Ugochi) for Typhoid fever.
- All Agapé Heart supporters, as together we continue to show the face of Jesus to the poor.
Please pray for:
The God of peace be with you all. Amen.
God richly bless you.
Yours in Christ
