Agape Heart is a charitable organisation established in England in April 2007. It grew out of a God-deposited and God-nourished desire to see His love in action among desperately impoverished people.
“Agapé” refers to the divine and unconditional love that our Creator God has for us. The Bible says that “God has poured out His love into our hearts, by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us,” Romans 5:5-8. We are compelled by this incomparable, immeasurable and wonderful love that He has put in our hearts to demonstrate the same love to those in need. When you are blessed with "agape" love you cannot but respond with compassion and love to the plight of those whose lives have been blighted, for whatever reason, by suffering and poverty.
Agape Heart is committed first and foremost to the Great Commission – bringing the message of the Christian gospel to all people. Agape Heart is passionate about the relief of poverty, in all its manifestations. Agape Heart aims to bring the love of God, His hope and comfort to the needy and impoverished in the seemingly forgotten regions.
Pain, suffering, poverty, little or no education and hopelessness is sadly the lot of many, if not most, in the small village of Amuma, Abia State, Nigeria, where I have been led by the Spirit of the Living God to start the mission of Agape Heart.
The village of Amuma, with a resident population of approximately 3,000 is predominantly a subsistence farming community. Amuma has no clean public water supply. Water is drawn mostly from stagnant pools of dirty water. There is no clinic or hospital, and no maternity services. The women of Amuma give birth in their homes (huts), attended by one or two older women who also carry out male circumcision. There are one or two shops selling very basic provisions. There is one primary school with extremely sparse resources, staffed by few teachers with minimal education and training themselves.
The Agape Heart vision incorporates various projects to relieve different areas of pressing need within the community including medical care, feeding programmes, small grants to set up micro-businesses, funding educational training and a pprenticeship for young people, child sponsorship, provision of a clean, safe public water supply and a health clinic. Agape Heart is also committed to the free provision of Christian literature and resources to the poor.
The needs of the community are huge and there are very many desperate cases of poverty and requirements for urgent medical treatment. Agape Heart is currently involved in helping some of the most urgent cases. By His grace, we are making a difference to each individual to whom we have ministered. We know that God has not forgotten the people of Amuma. The Bible says,
We pray that you catch the Agape Heart vision. Please support the work of Agape Heart.
